Forest have signed a striker at last! After tracking Leon Best (Coventry) and Matty Fryatt (Leicester) Colin Calderwood has dipped into the Blue Square South division to pluck Gareth McCleary, 20, from Bromley for a reported £20,000 (subject to a medical).

COLIN Calderwood predicted McCleary will have an impact on League One this season – only once he has become accustomed to the rigours of professional football.

The striker or winger will officially complete a £20,000 move from Blue Square South side Bromley before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, after impressing on trial at the City Ground.

McCleary, 20, has scored 11 goals in 42 appearances for Bromley this season and Calderwood feels he can play a part for the Reds before the end of the campaign – although perhaps not immediately.

“Everything is agreed, we just need to get him through a medical. He is somebody who can have an impact, he is not just one for the future,” said Calderwood.

“He has been injured for the past month or so and we have to get him fit again, he will need a month to get conditioned. We have had him in and he does look to have something about him, we are delighted to have signed him.

“We have got a heavy month in March, but the next fortnight will be an introduction to full time training for him and he will need to do some conditioning work before he is ready.”
