Forest last night made a £1million move for Dundee United Captain Barry Robson - and expect to hear an answer before close of play today.
The Reds had a £300,000 offer rejected out of hand by united last week.
However after watching the Scotland international score against Kilmarnock last weekend, Calderwood has decided to come in with a more realistic bid.
Celtic and Burnley are also said to also be interested, but Burnley have turned their attentions elsewhere after baulking at United's £1.25m price tag.
Celtic are known to be long-time admirers of Robson and may still look to trump Forest after making a tentative inquiry earlier this month.
